Dixieland runner-up highlights Holcombe's Modified Mafia Tour twin bill
The Modified Mafia Tour led Austin Holcombe to Dixieland Speedway (Elizabeth City, N.C.) and County Line Raceway (Elm City, N.C.) for a weekend doubleheader.
Holcombe kicked off the weekend on Friday at Dixieland Speedway, timing in fourth quickest in time trials against 16 total entries. Taking the green flag fourth in the 30-lap, $2,500-to-win feature, Holcombe climbed two positions aboard his Owens Construction-backed No. 8A to score a runner-up finish.
On Saturday, Holcombe returned to his home track, Elm City's County Line Raceway, for another 30-lap affair with the Mod Mafia Tour. Holcombe laid down the fastest lap in time trials, topping a 12-car field with a lap time of 15.815 seconds to collect the fast time award, worth $200. In the $3,000-to-win main event, Holcombe took command on the opening circuit from the outside pole, but overheating issues forced him to pull his Lethal Chassis to the infield with just nine circuits complete.
Saturday's 11th-place result bumps Holcombe to second in Modified Mafia Tour point standings, just four points shy of the top spot.
